Vehicle Branding in Kenya: Full Wraps vs. Partial Branding vs. Car Stickers, Which Is Right for You?

28 January 2026

A branded vehicle is the only advertising you pay for once and then run every single day. Whether you operate one pickup or a delivery fleet, the question is rarely whether to brand, but how far to go. Here is how full wraps, partial branding and car stickers compare for Kenyan businesses.

Why Vehicle Branding Works as Mobile Advertising

Vehicles move through exactly the places your customers already are: Mombasa Road at rush hour, estate gates, supermarket car parks, industrial area loading bays. Unlike a billboard, there is no monthly rental and no fixed location. A branded van parked outside a client's premises for two hours is two hours of exposure to everyone who walks past, and unlike digital ads, nobody can scroll past it.

Branding also does quiet trust work. A plumber, courier or medical supplier arriving in a clean, branded vehicle reads as an established business rather than an informal one, which matters when clients decide who to let onto their premises.

Option 1: Full Vehicle Wraps

A full vehicle wrap covers the body panels in printed vinyl, giving you an uninterrupted canvas with edge-to-edge colour and imagery. It is the strongest choice for delivery fleets, service vans, matatus and any business where the vehicle itself is the shopfront.

Wraps also protect the original paint from stone chips and sun, and can be removed at resale so the vehicle returns to standard. Expect the longest production and installation time of the three options, and the highest cost per vehicle, but the best visibility per shilling over the life of the wrap.

Option 2: Partial Branding and Decal Sets

Partial van and truck branding covers the high-impact areas only: doors, rear panel, bonnet, tailgate or a side stripe carrying your logo, phone number and services. You keep the vehicle's base colour and pay for a fraction of the vinyl.

For most Kenyan SMEs this is the sweet spot. A well-designed door and rear-panel set delivers a large share of the recognition of a full wrap at a much lower cost, and it is quick to install, so the vehicle is off the road for hours rather than days. Choose matte or gloss vehicle vinyl depending on the finish you want against the existing paint.

Option 3: Car Stickers and Magnets

Car stickers are the entry point: cut vinyl logos, contact details, licence or compliance markings, and rear-window decals. They suit personal vehicles, salespeople using their own cars, and businesses testing a design before committing to a fleet roll-out.

Car magnets go one step further by being fully removable. Attach them for a work day, lift them off for the weekend or when a rental vehicle goes back. They are ideal for hired vehicles, part-time drivers and short campaigns. Add reflective stickers where the vehicle operates at night.

Lifespan assumes quality cast vinyl, professional installation and hand washing rather than stiff brush car washes. Kenyan sun is hard on cheap film, which is why we quote UV-stable material as standard.

Legal and Safety Considerations for Branded Vehicles in Kenya

Branding must never obscure number plates, lights, indicators, mirrors or the driver's field of view, and windscreen and window coverage is restricted. Commercial and public service vehicles also carry specific marking, reflective and identification requirements. Confirm current rules with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) before finalising artwork, particularly for PSVs, school transport and heavy commercial vehicles, and budget for the required reflective markings as part of the job.

How to Choose the Right Option for Your Business

Work backwards from three things: how many kilometres the vehicle covers, how long you will keep it, and what you need people to remember. High mileage plus long ownership justifies a full wrap. Moderate use, mixed personal and business duty, or a vehicle you plan to sell soon points to partial branding. One or two vehicles, a tight budget, or rented transport points to stickers and magnets. Fleets can mix approaches: wrap the vehicles that sit in traffic all day, sticker the rest.
